What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry allows pediatric dentists to perform treatments safely while your child remains relaxed. Benefits include no memory of the procedure, reduced awareness of time, and no fear, sounds, or discomfort during treatment.

Types and Levels of Sedation

There are three levels: mild, moderate, and deep sedation. Mild sedation helps children relax while staying awake, moderate sedation provides deeper relaxation, and deep sedation may cause little to no awareness.

Methods include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral medication, and IV sedation.

General Anesthesia and When It’s Needed

General anesthesia is used for young children, those with special healthcare needs, or patients requiring complex procedures. It is performed in a hospital setting and ensures safe, complete comfort during treatment.
