What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is commonly used to help children with mild to moderate dental anxiety.

It is administered through a small mask placed over the nose and helps your child feel calm and relaxed.

How It Works During Treatment

Your child will breathe through their nose while remaining awake and able to communicate with the dentist. The gas helps reduce anxiety and control the gag reflex, making the visit more comfortable.

After the Appointment

Once the procedure is finished, your child will breathe normal oxygen, and the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly.

As children become more comfortable with dental visits, they may no longer need sedation.
