Protection for Sports and Active Lifestyles

Mouthguards are essential for protecting your child’s teeth, gums, and jaw during sports. Injuries to the mouth are common in many athletic activities, and wearing a mouthguard significantly reduces the risk.

The American Dental Association recommends their use in sports like football, basketball, soccer, and more.

Types of Mouthguards

There are three main types: pre-made, boil-and-bite, and custom-made mouthguards.

Choosing the right one is important—it should be comfortable, durable, easy to clean, and allow proper breathing. If your child wears braces or a retainer, a properly fitted mouthguard is especially important, and your dentist can help select the best option.

Care and Maintenance

To keep a mouthguard effective, clean it after each use with a toothbrush and toothpaste, and store it in a protective case.

Avoid heat exposure, replace it regularly, and bring it to dental checkups to ensure it still fits properly and provides the best protection.
